Archer & Angel’s attorneys have extensive experience in advising both domestic and foreign corporations on legal and regulatory issues, ranging from foreign investment regulations, direct and indirect taxes, industry specific approvals, regulatory matters affecting trade and business including exchange control regulations, environment law and approvals, customs and excise rules and procedures, value added tax, service tax, income tax, import/export policy and other approvals for effectively running a business as well as issues relating to competition policy and anti-corruption compliance.

Some of our recent work includes:

  • Acted as a counsel for one of world’s leading remote mobile application testing company on issues involving viability of business model in India particularly from information technology security perspective, including approvals required from Department of Telecom and Ministry of Finance.
  • Represented one of the world’s largest commodity trading companies, in establishment of factory and warehouses in the states of Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, including obtaining all approvals for operation of the factory such as environment clearances, factory license and liaising with excise department, Department of Industrial Safety and Health, land officials etc.
  • Representing worlds largest restaurant company in securing various licenses, approvals, certificates and registrations required for operating restaurants, including advising on various regulations relating to health, food safety, fire and police.
  • Representing a UK based bus body manufacturer in obtaining all Government approvals at the central and state level in order for the company to commence manufacturing in India, including approvals and licensing requirements for fire, safety and environment.
  • Successfully advised world’s leading multi-national company in the business of rail equipment, brake systems and related products for locomotives, on a highly sensitive matter, dealing with Ministry of Railways, including policy & procedure changes.
  • Advised one of the world’s largest pistachio manufacturers on custom regulations, customs tariff and on procedures required for reduction in the customs duty on import of raw pistachio and ancillary products and seasonings, including dealing with senior bureaucrats in the Revenue Services, Ministry of Agriculture and other functionaries in Ministry of Finance and Commerce.
  • Acting for one of the world’s largest insurance companies on entry strategies into the non-life sector, Government regulations for obtaining licenses and liaised with the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority.
  • Advised a large multinational involved in the manufacture and distribution of soaps on obtaining registration with the Drugs Controller for all products falling under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
  • Acting for one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies on obtaining registration with customs authorities to prevent known counterfeit products from entering India. Advise on both intellectual property and customs regulations and procedures.
  • Represent a logistics company, which has a patented multi-modal intermediate bulk container with various customs issues in India, including liaising with Ministry of Finance on modification of tariffs and customs department on amendment of regulations leading to re-categorization of containers and lower customs duty.
  • Acted as Indian counsel for large and reputed technology multinational with headquarters in USA acquiring another multinational with a large R & D centre in India, as part of a global merger worth US$ 323 million. Also, advised on cleanup of acquired company including issues relating to mis-declaration leading to service tax claims, illegal procurement of products from domestic market without paying excise duty, non-compliance with various STPI regulations, various income tax and transfer pricing violations. Successfully liaised with relevant Government agencies and resolved all issued without resorting to litigation.
  • Acting for one of the largest e-publishing companies in USA on obtaining all the regulatory approvals, including contractual documentation, registration and compliance with the Software Technology Parks of India scheme of the Government of India and advise on service tax and income tax issues, specially related to categorization of service provider.
  • Advised the developer of India’s first toll road between New Delhi and NOIDA, U.P, on matters involving change in the accounting policies and treatment of loss and depreciation, including liaising with Ministry of Company Affairs on approvals for such changes.
  • Acting for one of the world’s largest cigarette manufacturers on restructuring their business in India, amending industrial license, expanding production, increase in shareholding including dealing with Ministry of Health, Department of Industry and Ministry of Labour.
  • Advising one of the world’s largest food processing and manufacturing companies on obtaining all necessary approvals and maintaining all regulatory compliances, relating to factory, environment, warehousing, packaging and labeling etc. Also, advised on current regulations for import of certain food products and liaised with Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Commerce to reduce import tariffs for certain products being imported from US.
