At present, India’s FDI Policy allows foreign investors, barring overseas airlines, to own up to 100 per cent stake in local carriers. However, foreign airlines are allowed to invest only up to 49 per cent in Indian carriers. The Government is now working on appropriate policies” which would allow 100 per cent ownership of Indian airlines by foreign airlines, amid local carriers opposing the move.
